Played this course yesterday and was disappointed. In the previous two years, this course was in great shape this time of year. We found crab grass every where on the fairways, tee boxes and the middle of the greens. The traps were like concrete.
Wow....where to begin. I called ahead, as I do with every course I play, to inquire about price and how busy the course was and if they have logo balls since I have never played at Westover before. They quoted me a price and informed me it was busy, but they could squeeze us in. I've heard that line before and should know by now that those words mean stay far far away at least that day. Upon arriving, I was told they couldn't even get us out for 2 more hours and but for a late cancellation we would have driven an hour each way for nothing. Word of advice to pro shop workers....busy and booked have different meanings. Then I was charged a different price than the one quoted an hour earlier on the phone which just seems wrong. After rushing out to the first tee with no time to putt a ball or two on the practice green, stretch or take a practice swing we began our round only to witness firsthand the slowest round of golf I may have ever played. There was a foursome 2 holes ahead of us log jamming the course without a ranger to be found. If your going to allow the course to be this full at least have a ranger monitoring pace of play. Not a pleasant experience, AT ALL, which is ashame because the course was actually quite nice. It's a little too short for my liking and the scorecard has yardages marked incorrectly, but some holes were fun to play and rather interesting moreso on the back 9 where the holes aren't side by side. The signature hole probably being the 11th hitting from an elevated tee to a dogleg right where you have to cross water and chip onto a protected green. The course was well maintained and the greens played to an average speed and were fair. They have logo balls for the collector like myself, a plus, but given the drawbacks a ball is hardly a Westover saviour. In fact, for the first time in over 1000 courses I have played did I actually call to complain. Paul the golf pro did say that if I played there again he would comp me a round which was nice, but even that hardly recovers from an otherwise extremely poor experience. Overall rating for the course itself B+. Overall rating for the staff and management an F and if I could give it a G ...I would. I'd ONLY recommend playing here during the offseason or when it's a little rainy because when this course if full forget about it.

not the worst course in the world, but there are plenty of other courses in the area that are the same price but twice as nice. the proshop worker got smug with me when i asked if i could get out for a quick 9...on a Tuesday in March. it has the distinction of being on my "never going back list"
If they keep the price where it's at when I played last I'll be going back often.
