The Fredericksburg Golf Course is set on a beautiful area of land that carries historic significance in addition to an immaculate country club setting.Located an equal distance from Washington D.C. and Richmond, Virginia, the Fredericksburg Country Club is built on the former site of several important Civil War battles. The golf course was built in 1927, originally a nine-hole course, and the stately clubhouse was once a Union army hospital used during the Civil War. The care in preserving the clubhouse has also carried over to the course where rolling fairways and greens look their best no matter the time of year. The Bermuda-grass course is well-known for its pristine conditions. The par-72 course is a challenging 6,705 yards from the back tees. You'll want to pull out your driver on the driving range before your round starts because the first three holes will challenge your distance right out of the gate.Your first shot of the day is on the par-5 first hole that stretches 517 yards from the championship tees. Next is the par-4 second hole that at 424 yards would be a par-5 on many courses. The trifecta is capped off by the monstrous par-5 third hole that measures a whopping 624 yards from the back tee. Not up for the challenge? The front and middle tees are much more distance-friendly.Despite the length of the course, you won't have to walk far between holes. The course was well-designed in that the green of one hole is just a few steps from the tee of the next hole.In addition to the driving range, there are plenty of amenities that help prepare you for your round. The club offers a short game area where you can practice chipping up to 50 yards to a green that has the same top-notch care as the greens on the course. There are also putting greens and two practice bunkers that you'll want to try out since there are plenty of fairway and greenside bunkers on the course. The staff offers true country club service, whether in the pro shop, restaurant or offering tips on the course. The private members-only club offers opportunities for golfers of all ages and abilities, including lessons from the on-site professional, kids' golf camps, ladies' leagues, gear demo days, weekend groups and more. The Fredericksburg Golf Club is well deserving of five stars.
