The golf course experience at Holly Lake Golf Course was a nightmare. To begin with, tee times are not available. You only have two times daily in which to play a round of golf, in a shot gun format. One start time is at 8:45AM and the other start time is 1:15PM. You sign up for play the day of play, no sooner. This is not set up for visitors on vacation. Roughly 98% of the participants are retired people who reside there, who are in an extreme rush to return home to get back to their naps. They all had their own golf carts, some with Confederate Rebel Flags, and they all play speed golf. The course marshal harassed us constantly about the speed of play because of these retired people who constantly complained. The group playing behind us requested to play through, which we obliged without hesitation. The course marshal first harassed us about my 7 year old son hitting balls while the other group participants were looking for their stray balls. He informed me that we were the source of slow play, even though my ball was already on the green. Then the second time the course marshal questioned the group as to what location we were hitting from on the tee box. The course marshal returned a third time to attempt to make the group tee off from the color location of his choosing. The course marshal returned a fourth time to tell the group that we had until 1:00PM to complete our round, regardless of if we were finished with all 18 holes or not. When paying to play, it is an expectation to play at a reasonable pace, which was the case. Upon completion of the round, there were other groups still on the course playing from the morning start. When paying to play, it is an expectation to be able to choose the location to tee off from, as long as you are abiding by the rules. When paying to play, the round should be enjoyable, which it was not. I do not know for sure if the issue here was racial, or the fact that we were on vacation and not a resident. In summary, do not play Holly Lake Golf Course unless you are a retired resident of Caucasian descent.
