I highly recommend this course. Bunkers are common, there is some water, but it's user-friendly. Great conditions and smooth greens. Nice people and not too crowded. Good value.
We played on March 9th and the course was crowded for a Sunday. The Pro Shop staff was courteous and the Starter particularly friendly and professional. The other two gentlemen we were paired with and our twosome all agreed that the course was not in particularly good condition even for an early March date. The tee boxes were acceptable and the fairways average. The greens however, were not in good shape. It looked like a fungus had damaged a good portion of each green. In fairness, the greens on the back nine was in better shape. The course layout is nice and several holes present a challenge. This is a decent course to play if one can get a discount coupon and play for less than $30-35.00. Otherwise, put it near the bottom of your play list.
The staff at Golden Bear is very courteous. I played right after a storm and the course was well drained. It was wet but not flooded. The layout is nice. There is water on quite a few holes and requires thought to plan your next shot. I paid the military rate which was very affordable.
Course was in good shape. Greens were nice and rolled true but not very fast. Average. It was nice, average Hilton Head golf. Lots of trees and doglegs. Water on several holes. Worth the money but not a lot of memorable holes.
