NEGATIVES:traffic noise on 3 holes, some greens need some work, a few bare spots on the odd farewayPOSITIVES: friendly staff, hopping bar, excellent value for $, excellent course design, nice fareway grasses -- give it some time & will be in A-1 condition
Rose Hill Golf club has really improved since we first moved to Bluffton, and has been every year since they re-opened. It's in good shape, the greens are matured and playing real well. We find it to be a challenging course in an ideal setting. Good golf, great price!
Played Rose Hill today. The course winds through one of the many plantations that are prevalent in the Hilton Head/Bluffton area. Some houses are hittable if you really spray one (like my brother-in-law). The course is in fine shape despite a couple of greens that have some blotchy spots. Lots of water on this course, but not much water that you need to carry - most of the water is on the left or right of the fairways/greens. The course features a few doglegs, but most of the holes are flat and straight. My favorite hole was the 9th - a par 3 with lots of water on your left and a semi-protected green.Rose Hill has 5 sets of tees, the longest being about 6900 yards. This not-very-long hitter, 21-handicapper played from the second set of tees that measured about 6600 yards and did just fine. The closest set of tees measure about 5000 yards and take much of the water out of play, so you can bring a mix of talented and not-so-talented golfers here and all can have fun.The price was definitely right -- we logged onto their website the day before and scored a $35 per person with cart deal.In summary, decent course and nice layout and the price is right.
I was asked to play in a Charity Tournament this past Sunday. Being a local and knowing the reputation of the course, I was hesitant, but my friend payed, so I played. What a pleasant surprise! By the looks of the previous reviews (I have never played the course before) they have made some great strides in the conditions catagory. The course was overseeded and greens putted great! Certainly not a top tier course, but a sneaky good layout and for the cost ($35), I booked a tee time for the holiday weekend for my family that is coming in to town. Overall.. great bang for my buck.
I disagree with the other reviews. Played in November 2011 and course was in good shape. Very nice and helpful staff. Felt that it was a really good value. Definitely worth trying it out.
What a dump! They have more weeds in the fairway that grass. Tee boxes are dirt. Almost looks like they have given up and are hoping some suckers will still play. No hospitality. No merchandise in the pro shop. My cousins farm is better outfitted and manicured for golf than this hunk crap. They're greedy folks. They should know if you're going to charge $45 to play golf it should be on grass, Not old Nelly's cow pasture with the flags stuck in a pile of DUNG!!! Crooks! Go down the street, pay a couple more $ and play a club that cares.
This course is horrible. I played it today (March 1, 2010) and the greens were the worst I have ever seen. The club has not taken any care of the greens. I felt like I was putting on ice or marble floor. Do not waste your money. There are 30 some other courses in the Bluffton/Hilton Head area that are worth playing. I don't even think a pro could stop a ball on these greens.
