Interesting course in between the two halves of the Sprain Brook Parkway.Sprain Lake is one of the Westchester County owned courses - a nice short 18 hole layout in Yonkers right off of the Northbound Sprain Brook Parkway. The course from the tips only measures about 6100 yards. From the whites, it only measures about 5700 yards. There are quite a few par 4s under 300 yards from the whites, so scoring one of your better rounds is a good possibility here. The course is hilly and features several dogleg holes. There is a small creek that gobbles up mis-hit ground balls on 4 holes or so. Sprain Lake comes into play on a few other holes. Notable holes include hole 3, a par 4 that features a steep drop into the green. Hole 11 is an elevated par 4 sharp dogleg right. A fun course. On the day I played (Monday, April 27), the course was undergoing extensive aerating work and there were quite a few temporary greens. That is April golf for you. The staff gave this nonresident the resident rate as compensation. The chicken sandwich at the Sprain Grill was excellent. Much better than normal golf course food.A recommended play if you are in the area.
