A very scenic course with the aforementioned elevated tee boxes. Usually in very good shape. The staff here is very friendly and remember you by name. The Tues. & Wed. $65 special (up from $60 in 2010) is still a good deal. Would like to see that implemented Mon.- Thurs. Course can get crowded and the pace of play slow, so I recommend teeing off early morning mid-week (ThePublicGolfer "TPG" rarely plays the weekends in the Tri-State area as the "TPG" has no patience for rounds over 4 hours). Rounds here at their quickest pace are usually 4:15 to 4:30 weekdays. Some golf buddies of "TPG" are not fans of all the elevated tees on this course (there are 6), but the vistas are pretty great and it makes finding the fairway a bit harder. This course is challenging to high handicappers so they should play forward tees. The course hasn't yet solved the issue with hole #6. It used to be a short drive-able risk/reward par 4 until a homeowner down the out of bounds line to the right sued for all the balls landing on their property. The solution so far has been to move the tees up to make it a 215 yard par 3. There had been talk of making it a dog-leg par 4 but it seems like the par 3 solution could stand. This solution however messes with the overall design because #7 is a short par 3. With #9 and #10 also being Par 3's you play four par 3's in 5 holes. Would be best if they could somehow bring #6 back to a par 4. There are a lot of dramatic holes out here but my favorite is #15, a brawny uphill par 4 that takes 2 really good shots to get to the green. Least favorite holes are #12 & #16. A interesting course worth playing.
Built on a mountain, this course has some serious elevated tee boxes. Long hitters will love this course. Some of the fairways feel like they're 100 feet or more below the tee boxes. I remember one hole you're actually above the power lines that run next to the course. Spectacular views of the Hudson valley and river. I was fourtunate to play on a day they were running a special for $60 including cart. But even if you pay the regular fee it is well worth the money. Bottom line...You must play this course if you're in the area!!!
