One would expect a well maintained course with a friendly and helpful staff for the $80 green fee (with cart) in the town of Glen Cove. This course is not one of them. In fact, it's shameful the town of Glen Cove charges such a green fee when it is evident little if no revenue is used towards maintaining the course. The tee boxes are riddled with divots and clumps of remaining grass and weeds, the fairways are a mixture of grass, crabgrass and weeds if vegetation is present at all; the second hole fairway is dirt, sand, and dead grass extending 150 yards out from the green. One par three hole is a completely blind shot due to overgrown reeds. The greenskeeper's "solution" was to install a taller flagstick of approximately 10 feet high but a 25 foot high flagstick is required. Another par three tee box has a large manhole cover centered within the white tees area strengthening the notion that the town highway department maintains the course. The greens were severely underwatered with many dead areas, crabgrass, and littered with missile silos (hole plugs from previous pin settings dried and shriveled leaving about quarter to half inch gaps). The staff was rude and treated us like were were a nuisance for playing the course and the NO REFUNDS and NO RAIN CHECKS is posted for nefarious reason; this facility is a cash cow for the town of Glen Cove because maintenance and operating expenses are clearly pennies on the dollar. To be fair, the water coolers provided cold, refreshing water with sturdy cups for drinking. Although, one can argue the coolers should have dispensed champagne for the price of the green fee and course conditions.

Glen Cove is a very scenic course that’s difficult but fair. This 18-hole executive course is located on the Gold Coast of Long Island and overlooks the Long Island Sound. The course backs onto the beach, and you’ll find especially nice views on the front 9.

The course starts off tough - #1 is the signature hole at 478 yards. You’ll encounter a blind shot that doglegs to the right, with three greenside sand traps and the pond to the left. There’s a blue and a red tee to accommodate different skill levels, but keep in mind, the difficulty of this course is above average.

A few other holes to watch out for - hole #7 (400 yards from the blue tee) is a blind shot with a sharp dogleg to the left. Hole #14 (242 yards) has a very tight fairway and has dense trees on both sides, although it’s fairly straight. The main challenges you’ll find on this course are narrow fairways and small to medium sized sand bunkers.

Hole #2 is the most scenic as it backs onto the beach and ocean. It’s a straight shot and one of the wider fairways on the course. The main challenge is to prevent losing the ball if you hit over the back of the green.

The overall experience at this course is very good. Pace of play is better than average - an 18 hole round takes about 4 hours. The restaurant has been fully updated and there is even a tiki bar. Staff are friendly and professional.

If you’re looking for a fun, challenging and scenic course that offers a great overall experience, then visit Glen Cove golf club.

Had the good fortune of playing this pictureque scenic coarse on Long Island sound. The coarse is an executive 18 hole par 67 layout with relatively short hole and tight fairways. The #2 hole was my favorite hole with the tee shot facing Long Island sound. This would be a good test of golf in the fall with the winds.
