Rude and unprofessional grounds crew. As our foursome was about through with our round with 4 holes to play, we were in the fairway ready to hit our approach shots to the green and an employee was on the green spraying it. We waited about 15 minutes for him to finish before we could hit. This was the first time I've ever played a course where the grounds crew didn't stop and let players play. Well the same thing happened the next two holes so being the last group of several finishing up and knowing the rest were waiting for us to finish, we went ahead and hit our approach shots to the next two greens with the employee still spraying the greens slowly. None of our balls got anywhere near him. On the last hole as we were hitting our approach shots another employee approached us and told us to never hit while his employee was on the green. We told him the circumstance and I said the employee should have let us play and then sprayed the greens after we passed and he said that's not how it works there. Very unprofessional. Other than that I enjoy playing the course itself. Just rude unprofessional staff.
My name is Jim Murray. I am the new Director of Golf here at Glen Oaks. I have a whole new staff. All of the customer service issues of the past have been been dealt with. Come out and enjoy the best golf value in the area.
2008 review ..One of the best courses in this part of NC ...great variety of holes ...well maintained ..fun to play ...However , I have played this course about 10 times in the last year and when you go to pay the man behind the counter he seems to be bothered that you are there and very irritated that he has to walk over to the counter to take your money ...Maybe i`m wrong , but i think a hello or welcome to glen oaks should be REQUIRED from the face of your business... They have also on 3 occasions this year started groups on #10 when we were playing #9 ...The starter never bothers to check #9 when starting groups on the back ...The last time he started 4 walkers on #10 when we were putting on #9 green ( this is VERY IRRITATING BECAUSE WE PLAY FAST )...Having said all this , I really enjoy the course AND ONLY THE COURSE...... Just an update to my review from 2008 .. Course is still great .. Excellently maintained ( plush & green ) ..They do have a new clubhouse , but they still have the same rude guy running the pro shop ..He must be a majority owner .. I`ve talked to members and they feel that they have to apologize for his rudeness and not to pay him any attention .. But we come for the course and it is as good as it gets in this part of the state
Course is normally in good shape but is a below average layout. Good track for occasional round or for a beginner or senior golfer. Much better designs in the immediate area.
Well maintained couse. 3 holes are pretty long but other than that average length. A few holes strategy does come into play like using a long iron instead of driver from the tee. I agree with earlier reviews that depending upon who's at the counter you may be treated differently. Never play Frirday's at noon because that's the members' dog fight time and you will not get in, but other than that it's pretty open course. The staff behind the scenses are very friendly "local" boys who have grown up in this area and have been with this golf course for years.
