The overall course is not bad and will provide a fun challenging experience. However, though they play heavily on their "Oldest Across the Missisippi" selling point, know that it is a pretty modern experience since it is located in an area that might require you to dodge drivebys, or exchange gunfire on the way in, and then be hurried and harrassed by rednecks (including one who works there)if you survive. All I can say is that I hope they treat their regulars and locals better than they do visiting guests.
Played 18 today for $35.50 for 18 holes with a cart! Its the oldest public course west of the Mississippi river and it shows. This is a challenging course for the beginner/Intermediate player with some nice scenery. Theres a lateral water hazard which snakes around and is easy to go into. The greens were immaculate. Some of the fairways weren't the best maintained. The clubhouse is a relic of the 1970s. There is no beverage cart or halfway house to be seen. The man who took my reservation was cold on the phone but the man in the clubhouse was nice enough. Good value, give it a try.
This is one tough course. It was built for play over a hundred years ago, so it was built for walking, but the hills make that a real challenge, too. Lots of blind shots, which I don't like. VERY poorly maintained - can hardly get a tee in the ground on some boxes, and the greens should be called browns. No marshals, and lots of yahoos, so golf there can be less than fun. I've seen groups of fives and sixes, and pace can be really slow. They are understaffed, but they have nice folks nonetheless. Overall, it's sort of a redneck golfer's heaven.
Links style course..rarity anymore. A welcome change from the norm. When in shape this course is a monster to play..especially the Bethpage Black like Par 3 250 18th hole.
