This was my first time playing at The Peninsula and I was more than happy with it. The greens and fairways were in great shape and the scenery was nice. The only complaint that I have was the tee boxes needed some TLC, but everything else was nice. I would recommend booking a tee time and also a VIP card to save time and money. Very nice course and super friendly staff.
When it opened I'm sure the course was beautiful. The fairways were far, far less than fair and the greens were atrocious. They overloaded with foursomes and it took over 3 hours to play 9 holes(paid for 18 but quit after 9). It has become a retreat for bubbas(nothing like watching 4 rednecks in jeans tee-off then discard their empty bud light cans on the ground). Sand traps were abyssal(6 inched of water on top of concrete) and the greens had been obviously neglected and were littered with cigarettes that had been discarded while lit and had literally burned the greens. I joined up with a guy that talked about how nice it WAS and that they have had uncountable change ups in management which has without question turned what was once a lovely course into a nightmare.
Course is challenging especially with so many blind shots. The greens were very quick and in need of TLC with all the unrepaired ball marks...no doubt thanks to those who preceeded us. The bunkers were an absolute disgrace...you get hard-packed sand to billiard table texture. Evidence shows the crew doesn't have a clue about how properly maintain the sand traps. They apparently used to work at horse tracks where they scrape off the good stuff and what you get it cement...doesn't work too well. If the traps get fixed I'll go back....but not before.
Played Peninsula on Saturday June 19th, 2010..Staff was friendly enough, Pro Shop was adequate..Course was very challenging but fair if you can keep the ball in the fairway..Very beautiful terrain around Lake Harrington. I would recommend this course highly if you are visiting the Lexington Area.
