what on earth is brockgolf talking about? if you play the back tees, you can hit driver on 10, 11, 12, 14, and 18... i don't know how long you are, but i average about 280 off the tee and only lay up on 15 and 17... it's risky, but your rewarded with flip lob wedges on 10, 11, 12 if you hit driver in the fairway... you make a great point about walters golf though... they have turned far oaks, stonewolf, and gateway into hoosier land on weekends... we played on a sunday this summer 5hrs 20 min... ridiculous
Disagree about the other reviews in regard to the back 9. Alot of layup holes that require a 200-215 yard shot off the tee which I think is stupid. I hit the ball along way and want to be able to hit driver not 4 iron. I cant hit driver on the back 9 until hole 18. Decent overall course and usually in decent shape but has same issue as all of the Walters Mgmt courses, SLOW PLAY NOT ENFORCED!!! Its great that these courses (Walters) have lowered afternoon rates but this attracts yayhoos that don't know basic golf etiquette. Which is ok but a Marshal has to be out there letting them know that 6 hours is not the normal pace for a round of golf. We quit on hole 16 after 5h50m because they allowed a bachelor party of 16 play together and they had 4 carts per hole. No one said a word to them. My group along with 3 others around us quit because it was so ridiculous. This has become a common theme with Walters courses which is unfortunate because they were my favorites in the STL area.
Had a lot of fun on this course. The only thing to be aware of is the greens. The maintenance staff does a great job everywhere else but every green looks like it is a short par 3 with the thousands of ball marks on each green.
