Greens were in very sad shape. This was not worth the price that I paid for the round that I played. Ive never left a review, but after the poor conditions I experienced on this course, I felt that I owed it to other golfers to warn them. Agree with previous reviews, this is not a value and the whole experience wasnt worth the money. Go elsewhere mate, its just a disaster. BB
Played in group of 4 this morning at St James. This is not a very difficult course and is not in good shape. The greens are in poor shape and the fairways are shaggy - sadly the course just looks and feels unkept. If you are looking for a bargain golf experience on a poorly maintained course without a real club house or amenities, and a staff that seemed disorganized - this might be your place. The starter and the beverage cart girl were very nice, the rest of the crew were as described in the surveys Ive read below. They offer afternoon rates, if you play at that time, this course MIGHT be worth your trouble, if you are planning to play in the morning, you can do better for your money. P. Haughton
Recent reviews are correct, greens were horrible, fairways weren't cut and the level of service is laughable. Not worth the money I paid to play.
Should have listened to reviews, not well kept, staff was dismal, and experience was overall not even close to being worth the $52 I paid yesterday morning.Earlier reviews are correct, there are too many other good courses down on the treasure coast to waste your time or money here. Course was unkept and staff seemed like a bunch of immature kids. Bottom line: go elsewhere and get an enjoyable round of golf in.
This course is not worth the price. Course has been going downhill for years, gave it another try this weekend and its worse than ever. Course was in very poor condition, staff in proshop was unattentive and more interested in watching tv than helping us and my wife got to hear some inappropriate story beteen 2 of the cart guys when we finished, profanity and all. Then they cursed for not getting more than a 5 dollar tip for wiping our clubs.There are too many good ccourses with good managment and polite staff to pay winter rates on this unkept course and deal with the lacking staff. I'll try it again in another few years (provided they are in busines) and report back. I'd look eleswhere, this course is in decline. Smitty
Played on a Sat.morning. Greens not mowed. Poor greens. Not worththe $52 I paid. Fairways just okay. A lot of the 10/13/13 evaluations were similar.
The LPGA Players who wrote the inappropriate comments should be banned from leaving abusive comments targeting employees. I'm sorry that you felt the Wanamaker would've been a better choice. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS PLACE!!!!I've played a number of courses on the Treasure Coast, this was likely the worst experience I've had while visiting the area. From the staff in the clubhouse, to the condition of the course and greens - everything was well below par. -- The staff in the clubhouse, in particular the woman with the huge hair behind the counter - was downright rude. She actually had an argument with a member of my 4some about the cost of the round, which was posted in the local paper. She should spend some time in customer satisfaction school. The sad part is that we were not even questioning the price - until she pointed out that they were not honoring rates that they posted in the local paper. We had no idea anything was listed in the paper and were just trying to get out to the range and play some golf, maybe she was a temp employee, she seemed clueless. -- The course overall was downright horrible. The fairways are covered in crab grass, the bunkers were equally as bad and the greens were bumpy, fungus ridden and simply unacceptable. -- There are no fixed restrooms anywhere on the course, the water provided has algae on mouth of the coolers and they have an extremely limited selection in the so-called club house for lunch. I play with a group of ladies that are used to a much higher standard of golf. This course was just a disappointment from start to finish. The staff seems to think that they are at a major country club, but don't treat customers as they are or maintain the course as they are. In short - we should have driven the extra 5 miles out to PGA and played the Wanamaker - PGA and other courses in the area are leaps and bounds above this course. I wouldn't waste your time playing this course and dealing with this staff. It was a pathetic experienced from start to finish.
60 year old relearning golf.. played bogey up until the age of 18 and then stopped playing until now... i like this course best, after playing many of the local courses... it is forgiving, open and a very friendly atmosphere in the club house... the practice facility is well laid out, well built and innovative with a range, putting green and short shot practice areas... i only use this course now and call it home... i will relearn to play golf and i trust st. james to help me get there.
Golf course in good condition and well maintained. The golfing experience is unfortunately dimminished because of the poor (and untidy) housing that surrounds this golf course.
This is definitely a course worth playing on the Treasure Coast. It could be a little difficult for those with 25+ handicaps...on a few holes the homes are a little close. I have recently played PGA Village (Dye), several courses in the Palm Beach and Hobe Sound area, and the two municipals in Fort Pierce. St. James was the clear winner on value, and it did not do badly on the quality of golf.I did not mind the municipals, but for the same price I found St. James to be be in better shape and offered a much nicer variety of holes. Compared to the nice courses around here it was in as good a shape as most and a good challenge.
