This is a great old course, a real treat for someone who appreciates more of a links type of play requiring consideration of how the ball runs out (i.e., contours of the land) and not just hitting high soft shots into greens. Just reading the names of past luminaries who played here in the early days - some say this is where the wooden tee was introduced - is a distinct pleasure. Please, if you want ultra lush grass and spongey greens, leave this place alone for the rest of us!!
Sunday June 10, 2012A public Donald Ross layout. I never pass up the chance to play any of his courses. There is a big difference from the tips verses the middle tee boxes. You need your short game in order to score on this course. The track is wide open otherwise. Hole #1 & Hole #10 watch out for the auto traffic while teeing off from the blues. Hole #4 an uphill par 3 is a hard hole to hit with a turtle back green. Hole#16 & Hole#17 are beautiful viewing holes with the Thames River close bye. The course does need aeration, as the tee boxes are extremely hard. The food and staff at the club house tops off the fun day at the course.
